Panthers Free Agent LB A.J. Klein Looking For Opportunity To Start

In an interview with Sirius XM NFL Radio, Panthers free agent LB A.J. Klein mentioned that he plans to seek out a starting role with a new team after spending time behind Luke Kuechly and Thomas Davis in Carolina.

“Being behind Luke and Thomas Davis was a great learning experience but I’m looking for an opportunity to go somewhere and start,” Klein said.

It’s hard to blame Klein for wanting to see if he can secure a starting job somewhere after playing behind two Pro Bowl linebackers the past few years.

Klein, 25, is a former fifth-round pick of the Panthers back in 2013. He has played out his four-year, $2,351,300 contract and is now in a position to test the open market as an unrestricted free agent.

In 2016, Klein appeared in 15 games for the Panthers and recorded 31 tackles, one sack, two forced fumbles and a pass defense. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 76 linebacker out of 87 qualifying players.
