Free Agent G Travelle Wharton Reportedly Interested In Playing For The Dolphins

Update:

According to Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald, free agent G Travelle Wharton is interested in playing for the Dolphins next year.

  • Jackson adds that Dolphins told Wharton’s agent that they will “possibly” consider him at a later time, but only after they take a look at younger options.

Wharton, 32, is coming off of a great 2013 season in which Pro Football Focus had him rated as the No. 5 guard in the league.

Interestingly enough, the Panthers actually released him back in 2012, but Wharton returned to Carolina last year when he signed a one-year contract.

We have him listed as the No. 17 best available player in our Top 50 Free Agents list.

Aaron Wilson, citing a league source, reports that Panthers G Travelle Wharton has no plans to retire at this time.

Wharton seemed to suggest that he contemplating his future in the NFL a few weeks ago.

“I don’t know what I’m going to do at this point. Still trying to figure it out,” Wharton said, via the Charlotte Observer. “Really taking inventory on my body, my mind, and just making sure it’s the right deal for me.

“I love it here in Charlotte. This is where we want to live,” Wharton said. “If there’s going to be a next year, we have to sit down and talk about it.”

The Vikings reportedly had interest in Wharton, but that was before the re-signed G Charlie Johnson.

Losing both Wharton and LT Jordan Gross would be a huge loss for the Panthers.
