Panthers Hosts DE Quinton Coples For A Visit, Leaves Without Agreement

Update:

Josina Anderson reports that free agent DE Quinton Coples‘ visit with the Panthers concluded without him being signed to a contract.

Rand Getlin of NFL Media reports that the Panthers are bringing in DE Quinton Coples for a visit on Tuesday.

  • Adam Schefter reports that Coples is taking a physical for the Panthers.

This is the first reported interest in Coples since he was waived by the Dolphins close to a month ago.

It’s worth mentioning that signing Coples to a contract wouldn’t factor into a team’s 2017 compensatory picks.

Coples, 25, is a former first-round pick of the Jets back in 2012. However, he lasted just three years in New York before he was waived and later claimed by the Dolphins back in November.

The Jets elected to pick up Coples’ fifth-year option back in April, but this figure is guaranteed for injury only, which means the Dolphins will free up $7.751 million in available cap space by cutting him.

In 2015, Coples appeared in 16 games and recorded eight tackles, no sacks, and a fumble recovery for the Jets and Dolphins.
