Panthers Interested In WR Mike Wallace?

Panthers head coach Ron Rivera seemed to suggest that they would consider targeting free agent WR Mike Wallace this offseason.

“You’re warm, but you know, what’s going to be interesting is how things unfold once we get to March 12,” Rivera said while appearing “NFL AM,” via NFL.com “There’s a lot of things that are out there that we have to really take into consideration. You know, we’ll see how things are going to affect us when we get to the 12th.”

While I’m sure a number of NFL teams have at least some amount of interest in Wallace, it’s doubtful that the Panthers would even be able to offer him anything close to a market-value contract given their cap situation.

The Panthers would have to shed a ton of salary in the next few weeks to even considering targeting replacements or upgrades in free agency. Carolina is roughly $10 million over the salary cap and is in pretty bad shape for 2014 as well.

Wallace figures to command a very sizable contract this offseason. We have him listed as the No. 6 best available player in our Top 50 Free Agents list.
