Panthers LB Jon Beason’s Roster Spot Safe

According to Joe Person of the Charlotte Observer, Panthers LB Jon Beason‘s is unlikely to be released this offseason.

Person points to the fact that Beason still has to much guaranteed money remaining on his contract  after signing a five-year extension worth $51.5 million back in 2011.

Beason, 28, has undergone three surgeries in a 17-month span to his right knee and left shoulder. It’s doubtful that he’ll be active during OTAs, but he is hoping to back to 100 percent in time for training camp.

Last year, Carolina drafted Luke Kuechly who would go on to win defensive rookie of the year, so he’s got the middle linebacker position covered. Beason will most likely have to move to strongside linebacker this season.
