NFL.com’s Bucky Brooks reports that Carolina Panther team officials have told him that they’re not going to force No. 1 overall pick Cam Newton into the lineup until he has a handle on the teams offensive scheme.
The lockout is sure to complicate and delay Newtons ability to get a firm grip on the teams offense. Newton used a play-calling system based on numbers while at Auburn which was highlighted during John Gruden’s Quarterback Camp so he will require more time than they’ll likely have to get him up to speed. This could be the first good news that Jimmy Clausen has heard since the season ended. The issue is that the Panthers have been rumored to be looking for a veteran quarterback.
