NFL Taking Over Investigation Into Workplace Misconduct From Panthers Owner Jerry Richardson

This includes sexually suggestive language and behavior and the use of a racial slur directed at an African-American Panthers scout. According to the report, the settlements came with non-disclosure requirements that forbid the parties from discussing any details regarding the actions of Richardson.

Ian Rapoport reports that the NFL is taking over the investigation into Panthers owner Jerry Richardson and potential workplace misconduct allegations made against him.

According to Rapoport, this idea was actually proposed by the Panthers and the NFL agreed that it was best for them to handle the investigation.

Jim Trotter of ESPN is reporting that Panthers owner Jerry Richardson is being investigated for alleged workplace misconduct.

The Carolina Panthers announced Friday that they are commencing an internal investigation into allegations of workplace misconduct against Richardson.

“The Carolina Panthers and Mr. Richardson take these allegations very seriously and are fully committed to a full investigation and taking appropriate steps to address and remediate any misconduct,” team spokesman Steven Drummond said.  “The entire organization is fully committed to ensuring a safe, comfortable and diverse work environment where all individuals, regardless of sex, race, color, religion, gender, or sexual identity or orientation, are treated fairly and equally. We have work to do to achieve this goal, but we are going to meet it.”

According to the Panthers, the investigation is being led by the outside international law firm Quinn Emanuel Urquhart and Sullivan, LLP, and will be overseen by limited owner and former White House Chief of Staff Erskine Bowles.

“Erskine Bowles is a trusted leader of unquestioned integrity. We look forward to this report, which we know will be honest and thorough,” Drummond said.

Richardson, 81, founded the Panthers’ franchise back in 1993. He has been an influential NFL owners over the years, but his recent health issues have led to him having a smaller role in league matters.
