Ron Green Jr of the Charlotte Observer writes that the Carolina Panthers have decided to start Cam Newton for the teams second preseason game on Friday.
Jimmy Clausen was given the start for their first preseason game and considering that Panthers have a competition underway for the starting quarterback position, it makes sense that Newton would get the teams next start.
Head coach Ron Rivera said that he expects to have announce the teams starting quarterback by next week. Clausen threw a pick-six in his first drive last week but rebounded with a touchdown pass later in the game. Newton had neither a touchdown nor a turnover but Clausen will have to out perform Newton to guarantee himself the job. As of now you would have to think that Newton is the favorite to start the season for Carolina.
