Panthers Place WR Devin Funchess On I.R. & Promote WR Damiere Bryd

The Carolina Panthers announced Thursday that they’ve placed WR Devin Funchess on injured reserve and promoted WR Damiere Byrd to their active roster.

Funchess, 22, is a former second-round pick of the Panthers back in 2015. He’s currently in the second year of his four-year, $5.52 million contract and stands to make base salaries of $615,000 and $705,000 over the remainder of the contract.

In 2016, Funchess appeared in 15 games for the Panthers and caught 23 passes for 371 yards receiving and four touchdowns.

Byrd, 23, wound up signing on with the Panthers as an undrafted free agent out of back in May of South Carolina last year. He was, unfortunately, unable to make the 53-man roster coming out of the preseason but was later added to the team’s practice squad.

Byrd was able to make the final roster this year but Carolina elected to cut Byrd loose back in October before signing on to their practice squad a week later.

Byrd has yet to appear in an NFL game.
