Panthers RB Jonathan Stewart Could Miss 2-4 Weeks, Not A Candidate For Short-Term I.R.

Update:

According to Rivera, Stewart could be miss “two weeks, three weeks, four weeks” but isn’t a candidate for short-term injured reserve, per Joe Person.

Panthers HC Ron Rivera told reporters on Monday that RB Jonathan Stewart is undergoing an MRI for his hamstring injury, but his sense is that Stewart is likely to miss “at least a week or two“, per Joe Person.

“If Jonathan’s out for an extended period, we feel good about the guys we have,” Rivera added, per Person.

Following the team’s win over the 49ers, Rivera admitted that “there’s a little concern” Stewart’s hamstring and ankle injuries, so it appeared as though there was a chance Stewart could be sidelined for a period of time.

Stewart, 29, is a former first-round pick of the Panthers back in 2008. He’s currently in the fifth year of his six-year, $37.811 million contract that included $22.5 million guaranteed.

This season, Stewart has rushed for 73 yards on 20 carries (3.7 YPC) to go along with two receptions for seven yards receiving and no touchdowns. Pro Football Focus had him rated as the No. 11 running back out of 53 qualifying players.

We’ll have more regarding Stewart and his timetable as the news is available.
