Panthers Re-Sign DE Wes Horton

The Carolina Panthers announced Friday that they’ve signed DE Wes Horton to a one-year deal and placed WR Damiere Byrd on waivers.

Horton, 25, signed on with the Panthers as an undrafted free agent out USC back in 2013. He was in the final year of his three-year, $1.485 million rookie contract when the Panthers cut him loose last year.

However, Carolina later re-signed him to a contract a week into October. Horton was reinstated after being suspended four games, but Carolina elected to waive him from their exempt list before later adding him to their practice squad.

Horton returned to the Panthers on a one-year deal this past February but was among their final roster cuts coming out of the preseason.

In 2015, Horton appeared in eight games and recorded seven tackles and a sack for the Panthers.
