Panthers Re-Sign FB Mike Tolbert

Tiffany Blackmon reports that the Panthers are re-signing veteran FB Mike Tolbert to a contract.

Rand Getlin of NFL Media reported a few days ago that the Panthers and the reps for Tolbert were in discussions regarding a potential contract extension.

Tolbert mentioned close to a month ago that he “absolutely” wants to re-sign with Carolina this offseason.

Absolutely,” Tolbert said, via the Charlotte Observer. “We’ll take care of all the business aspects of my contract after the season. I would love to stay, but you never know what happens. We’ll see.”

Tolbert, 30, played out the final year of his four-year, $10 million contract and is one of the best available fullbacks in this year’s free agent class.

In 2015, Tolbert appeared in all 16 games for the Panthers and ran for 256 yards on 62 carries (4.1 YPC) to go along with 18 receptions for 154 yards receiving and four total touchdowns. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 11 fullback out of 22 qualifying players.
