Panthers Release LB James Anderson

ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports that the Panthers have released LB James Anderson.

Anderson, 29, signed a five-year deal worth $22 million that included $8.5 million guaranteed back in 2011. He has a $2.9 million base salary coming his way, but with the Panthers financial situation and his poor 2012 season, this moves makes plenty of sense.

It’s worth noting that this move frees up almost no cap space, but gives them an extra $3 million in cash.

He should still find interest on the open market, but it’s doubtful that he’ll come anywhere near his previous contract.
