Panthers Release Veteran DT Paul Soliai, Pick Up $2.5M Of Cap Space

The Carolina Panthers are releasing veteran DT Paul Soliai on Tuesday, according to his agent David Canter.

Soliai, 33, is a former fourth-round pick of the Dolphins back in 2007. He spent seven years in Miami before signing a five-year, $33 million contract including $14 million guaranteed with the Falcons in 2014.

Soliai lasted just two years in Atlanta before he was released last March. The Panthers signed him to a two-year, $7 million contract with $3 million guaranteed a few weeks later. Soliai was set to make a base salary of $1 million for the 2017 season.

According to OverTheCap.com, releasing Soliai will free up $2.5 million of available cap space while creating $1 million in dead money.

In 2016, Soliai appeared in 10 games for the Panthers and recorded eight tackles, no sacks and a fumble recovery.
