The Panthers have already confirmed the deal.
“It’s a blessing,” Coleman said. “When you go through situations you want what’s best for your family and what’s best for the team, and I’m really excited. I’m fortunate to be a part of this team for three more years. Training camp is the beginning of a new season, and for me, now that this is out of the way I am completely focused.”
“The game is all about opportunities and seizing those opportunities,” Coleman added. “I was able to do that, but I couldn’t do it by myself. My teammates elevated my game, the coaches prepared us, and ultimately, when I was in the right position I made the plays. It all started with the belief in myself. I knew if I was given the opportunity I would succeed.”
- Rapoport adds that Coleman is expected to sign his contract on Wednesday.
Coleman, 28, signed with Carolina last season and was entering the final year of a two-year, $2.8 million deal that included a $600,000 signing bonus. He will now be under team control through the 2019 season.
In 2015, Coleman appeared in all 16 games and recorded 90 total tackles, one sack, seven interceptions, and nine pass defenses. Pro Football Focus rated him as the No. 14 safety out of 89 qualifying players.
