Panthers Sign C Kevin Matthews

 

The Carolina Panthers announced the signing of veteran C Kevin Matthews Wednesday.

Matthews is the second interior lineman signed by Carolina today-joining G/C Fernando Velasco– as the Panthers aim to bring in some competition.

Matthews, 27, is the son of Hall of Famer Bruce Matthews.  He was signed as an undrafted free agent in 2010 by the Tennessee Titans, and appeared in 17 games through 2012, with three starts.

Last season, Matthews again caught on with the Titans midseason after being released by Washington.  He did not appear in any games.

Matthews could be in a good position to secure the backup spot and learn behind Ryan Kalil, one of the better centers in the league.
