Panthers Sign First-Round DT Vernon Butler To A Four-Year Deal

The Carolina Panthers announced Friday that they have agreed to terms with first-round DT Vernon Butler.

Butler, 21, was taken with the No. 30 overall pick and was an interesting selection considering the Panthers depth at defensive tackle. However, there’s no question that they’re a value focused team that places a high priority on defensive linemen.

According to OverTheCap.com, Butler receives a four-year contract worth $8,396,516 to go along with a signing bonus of $4,306,556 . The contract will include a fifth-year option for the team to consider in 2019.

During his four-year college career at Louisiana Tech, Butler recorded 168 tackles, 28.5 tackles for a loss, five sacks, a forced fumble, two fumble recoveries, and three pass defenses.
