Panthers Sign OL Jeremiah Sirles

The Carolina Panthers announced Friday that they’ve signed G Jeremiah Sirles to a one-year contract.

It was clear that the Panthers were the team to watch for Sirles, who visited Carolina last week. The Vikings reportedly had some interest in bringing him back, but it looks like the Panthers managed to get a deal done in the end.

Sirles, 26, originally signed on with the Chargers as an undrafted free agent out of Nebraska back in 2014. He was unable to make the 53-man roster during his rookie season and spent the year on the team’s practice squad.

The Chargers later traded Sirles to the Vikings in return for a 2016 sixth-round pick that eventually became FB Derek Watt. Minnesota brought Sirles back on an exclusive rights contract last year but declined to tender him a contract as a restricted free agent this offseason.

In 2017, Sirles appeared in 14 games for the Vikings and is rated by Pro Football Focus as the No. 48 offensive tackle out of 81 qualifying player
