Panthers Sign RB Mike Tolbert

NFL.com’s Jason La Canfora reports that RB Mike Tolbert has agreed to a four-year deal with the Carolina Panthers.

Tolbert recently met with the team but it obviously didn’t take long to get something done. The move is a little interesting considering that their backfield currently consists of Jonathan Stewart or DeAngelo Williams but many have speculated that adding Tolbert had more to do with replacing Mike Goodson than anything else.

Last night we mentioned that there’s a rumor circulating that Stewart could be on the trading block if Tolbert signed with the Panthers. Willimas’ contract makes it almost impossible for him to be dealt so Stewart makes more sense. La Canfora adds that the Panthers will most likely employ some “unique” packages next season.

We had Tolbert listed as the #13 best available free agent in our Top 50 Free Agents list.
