Panthers Sign S Robert Lester To Active Roster, Waive LB D.J. Smith

The Carolina Panthers announced Tuesday that they have signed S Robert Lester to their active roster and placed LB D.J. Smith on waivers.

Lester, 26, signed on with the Panthers as an undrafted free agent out of Alabama last year. He was unable to make the 53-man roster coming out of the preseason, but he wound up on the team’s practice squad.

In 2013, he appeared in 12 games and recorded 21 tackles, three interceptions and a fumble recovery over the course of 12 games.

Smith, 25, is a former sixth-round pick of the Packers. He has bounced around quite a bit since he was waived by Green Bay in April of last year. Carolina signed him to a future/reserve contract in January, but he was unfortunately among their final roster cuts a month ago.

Carolina signed him to their active roster a few weeks ago.
