The Carolina Panthers announced that they’ve signed tryout TE Desean Smith to a contract on Tuesday and placed OT Pearce Slater on waivers.
Smith will have to compete for a roster spot this summer along with Scott Simonson, Chris Manhertz and Eric Wallace.
Smith wound up going undrafted out of LSU a few weeks ago before securing a tryout with the Panthers last week.
During his four-year college career at LSU, Smith caught 19 passes for 325 yards receiving (17.1 YPR) to go along with one touchdown over the course of 12 games.
