Panthers Sign Veteran C Fernando Velasco

According to Panthers DE Charles Johnson, veteran C Fernando Velasco has signed a contract with Carolina on Wednesday.

Velasco, 29, has found much interest as a free agent, although his name came up as a speculative option for the Dolphins after they lost Mike Pouncey for the season.

Last year, he signed on with the Steelers and would go on to appear in 11 games for them before he unfortunately suffered a season-ending Achilles’ injury.

The Panthers already have a quality center in Ryan Kalil, so it seems likely he will to compete for a backup position.

We had Velasco listed as the No. 43 player in our Best Available Free Agents list.
