Panthers Sign Veteran CB Chris Houston, Waive CB Jocquel Skinner

The Carolina Panthers announced the signing of veteran CB Chris Houston as well as the release of CB Jocquel Skinner on Monday.

Houston, 30, is a former second-round pick of the Falcons back in 2007. He spent three season in Atlanta before he was traded to the Lions in 2010.

Before this, Houston hadn’t found any reported interest one the open market, which likely had something to do with him sitting out the entire 2014 season due to a toe injury.

In 2013, Houston appeared in 12 games for the Lions and recorded 44 tackles, two interceptions and 10 passes defensed. Pro Football Focus had him rated as the No. 96 cornerback in the league out of 110 qualifying players in 2013.

Skinner, 22, signed on with the Cowboys as an undrafted free agent out of Bethel (TN) back in 2014. He lasted just a month with the team before he was waived/injured. However, the Buccaneers later signed him to a future/reserve contract at the end of last season before waiving him before the draft.

Skinner’s time with the Panthers was obviously short lived as the team just signed him to a contract a few weeks ago.
