Panthers Signing Veteran RB C.J. Anderson

Pro Football Talk is reporting that the Panthers are signing veteran RB C.J. Anderson to a contract on Monday.

  • Joe Person confirmed the news and adds that Anderson receives a one-year contract from Carolina.

Following his release from the Broncos, reports said that Anderson had interest from as many as eight teams, but no reports surfaced about him visiting with any prospective teams.

Even so, it appears as though the Panthers felt he would be a great addition to their backfield for the 2018 season.

Anderson, 27, wound up signing on with the Broncos as an undrafted free agent out of Cal back in 2013. He signed a four-year, $18 million contract that included $10 million guaranteed with the Dolphins as a restricted free agent during the 2016 offseason but the Broncos matched the deal.

Anderson was set to make base salaries of $4.5 million over the next two years of the agreement when the Broncos released him in a move that freed up $4.5 million of available cap space.

In 2017, Anderson appeared in all 16 games for the Broncos and rushed for 1,007 yards on 245 carries (4.1 YPC) to go along with 28 receptions for 224 yards receiving and four total touchdowns. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 6 running back out of 58 qualifying players.

We had him featured in our Top 50 Available 2018 NFL Free Agents list.
