Panthers Starting Derek Anderson In Week 15

Panthers HC Ron Rivera has informed backup QB Derek Anderson that he will get the start in Sunday’s game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Joe Person of the Charlotte Observer reported Tuesday night that Newton is likely to miss Week 15’s game, so this is really just a confirmation from the team.

This comes just a day after news broke that Cam Newton had suffered two transverse process fractures in his lower back following a ca accident that he was involved in Tuesday afternoon in Charlotte.

Cowboys QB Tony Romo suffered the same injury after he took a hit to back during their game against the Redskins earlier this season. Romo was forced to miss the following week’s game against the Cardinals.

There is still a chance that Newton could be back for next weekend’s game, but we’ll have to wait and see how his back responds in the coming days.

This season, Anderson has appeared in five games and completed 70.2 percent of his passes for 424 yards, four touchdowns and no interceptions.

A lot is riding on Sunday’s game for the Panthers, as they remain in the mix in for the NFC South playoff spot.
