Panthers TE Jeremy Shockey Considering Retirement?

Jason Cole of Yahoo! Sports reports there’s “no chance” that Panthers TE and soon-to-be free agent Jeremy Shockey will retire.

This comes in contrast to the reports and speculation from yesterday that Shockey was leaning towards calling it a career. It’s widely expected that Shockey will return to the Panthers for another season as they’ve shown a lot of interest in keeping him.

Carolina Panthers head coach Ron Rivera mentioned that TE Jeremy Shockey discussed possibly retiring following the 2011 season, per Joe Person.

Shockey, 30, has dealt with numerous injuries in recent years but was fairly productive for the Panthers last season. So far, Carolina has said that they would like have back for another season but Rivera has conceded that it’s hard to guess which way he’s leaning.

“With him, you never know,” Rivera said.
