Panthers Waive 5 Players Including S Tre Boston

The Carolina Panthers announced Tuesday that they’ve waived five players including S Tre Boston.

The Panthers also cut FB Devon Johnson, CB Lou Young, OT Jack Rodgers and OT Jordan Rigsbee.

A report from a few months ago mentioned that a few teams expressed interest in possibly trading for Boston, so it wouldn’t be surprising to see him catch on with a new team at some point in the near future.

Boston, 24, is a former fourth-round pick of the Panthers back in 2014. He’s currently in the final year of his four-year, $2,625,468 contract and stands to make a base salary of $690,000 for the 2017 season.

According to OverTheCap.com, releasing Boston will free up $1,797,000 of available cap space while creating $101,367 in dead money.

In 2016, Boston appeared in 15 games for the Panthers and recorded 53 tackles, two sacks, two interceptions and seven pass defenses. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 46 safety out of 89 qualifying players.
