Ian Rapoport of NFL Media is reporting that the Panthers are working to sign free agent DE Julius Peppers.

The Panthers have been connected to Peppers for a few weeks now, as they could give him the opportunity to finish out his career with the team he started with.

Peppers, 37, is a former first-round pick of the Panthers back in 2002. He played out the final year of his three-year, $26 million contract and is now testing the open market as an unrestricted free agent next year.

In 2016, Peppers appeared in all 16 games and recorded 23 tackles, 7.5 sacks, two forced fumbles, a recovery and three pass defenses. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 35 edge rusher out of 109 qualifying players.
