Patrick Peterson’s Playing Time Increasing?

Kent Somers of the Arizona Republic reports that the official word on CB Greg Toller’s injury is that he suffered a torn ACL and will now be placed on season ending injured reserve.

Since trading CB Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie the Cardinals were already thin at the position but his loss puts a lot of pressure on rookie Patrick Peterson. The Cardinals still have A.J. Jefferson and Richard Marshall but they could be looking to add some depth at the position in the coming days following roster cuts.

Coming into week three of the NFL preseason, Arizona Cardinals first-round pick has been playing a good majority of the time with the teams second-string defense but last night may very well have been the break that he needed to see his playing time increase.

Unfortunately for the Cardinals, Greg Toler went down with what’s being called a sprained left ACL, per Kent Somers of the Arizona Republic. There will be an MRI later today to determine the severity of the injury.

The injury to Toler opened the door for rookie CB Patrick Peterson who showed up big as he intercepted San Diego Chargers QB Phillip Rivers and returned it for a touchdown (NFL.com Clip). It really was a great play by Peterson as he anticipated Rivers throw and blew by everyone for a touchdown.

Depending on the severity of Toler’s injury, Peterson could end up running with the first-string defense sooner than it seemed he would.
