Patriots Sign WR Chris Hogan To A Three-Year, $12M Offer Sheet, Bills Unlikely To Match

Update:

John Wawrow of The Associated Press is reporting that Bills RFA WR Chris Hogan has signed the three-year, $12 million offer sheet from the Patriots.

This means that the Bills now have five days to match the Patriots’ offer to Hogan or lose him without any compensation after they elected to use a low-round restricted tender on him.

Ian Rapoport has reported that the Bills are unlikely to match the offer, but will wait to see the final details of the agreement.

Ian Rapoport of NFL Media reports that, barring a late snag, the Patriots are expected to sign Bills RFA WR Chris Hogan to a three-year, $12 million offer sheet. According to Rapoport, the deal is “heavily-guaranteed.

  • Rapoport adds that the Bills are unlikely to match the offer, but will wait to see the final details of the agreement.
  • Adam Schefter reports that the Patriots front-loaded $5.5M of their offer sheet to Hogan, which will be a challenge for the Bills to match given their cap situation.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports that the Patriots are bringing in Bills restricted free agent WR Chris Hogan for a visit on Thursday.

  • Schefter adds that the Patriots could sign him to an offer sheet.

The Bills used a low-round tender on Hogan, which is why he’s generating some interest.

The low-round tender would cost the Bills $1,671,000 for the 2016 season and give them the right of first refusal on any contract offer they receive. However, if they elect to not match an offer sheet, they would not receive any compensation for him.

Hogan, 27, wound up signing on with the 49ers as an undrafted free agent out of back in 2011. He had brief stints with the Giants and Dolphins before signing on with the Bills during the 2012 season.

Buffalo elected to bring Hogan back on exclusive rights deals in each of the past two years.

In 2015, Hogan appeared in all 16 games for the Bills and recorded 36 receptions for 450 yards receiving and two touchdowns.
