Jay Withrow of the Omaha World-Herald reports that Patriots CB Alfonzo Dennard was arrested on suspicion of drunk driving at 2 a.m. Thursday morning.
The Patriots have released the following statement in light of Dennard’s arrest:
“The New England Patriots are extremely disappointed to learn of Alfonzo Dennard’s arrest. We take this matter very seriously and are working to get more information on the incident.“
Dennard was a standout rookie for the Patriots defense last season, but this is his second arrest in Nebraska. The first came right before the 2012 draft after he assaulted an officer.
Given the tumultuous offense that the Patriots have endured, there’s at least a chance that they could release Dennard, despite the fact that cornerback hasn’t been a position of strength for them in recent years.
We’ll have more regarding Dennard’s status with the Patriots as the news becomes available.
