Patriots Could Have Interest In Trading For Buccaneers QB Mike Glennon?

Update:

Michael David Smith of Pro Football Talk reports that although there are rumors of a potential Mike Glennon-trade to the Patriots, sources have informed him them that nothing is in the works as of now.

Jason Cole mentions that there is a connected rumor to the report of the Texans trading for Patriots backup QB Ryan Mallett, which includes the Buccaneers sending Mike Glennon to New England.

  • Jason La Canfora also mentions that he anticipates a Glennon trade if the Buccaneers take a quarterback tonight.

This coincides with what Ian Rapoport reported a few days ago. According to Rapoport, if the Buccaneers come away from the draft with a quarterback, they will shop Glennon at that point.

Although Rapoport added that Tampa Bay has no intention of giving him away and could be asking for second-round pick in return for Glennon.

The idea of Glennon being available via trade has been circulating for a few weeks now, and really seems to make sense given that they have signed Josh McCown and shown plenty of interest in quarterback prospects.

Tampa Bay used the No. 73 pick on Glennon last year. He wound up taking over for Josh Freeman in Week 4 and would go on to throw for 2,608 yards while completing 59.4 percent of his passes and contributing 19 touchdowns.

Pro Football Focus rated Glennon as the No. 34 quarterback in the league out of 42 qualifying players.

The Patriots would have a replacement for Mallett who’s under contract for a few more years at a reasonable salary. They could try to develop Glennon during this time while Tom Brady continues to run the offense.

We’ll have more regarding potential trades as the news is available.
