Patriots & Darrelle Revis To Discuss Long-Term Contract Once Season Is Over

Jeff Howe of the Boston Herald reports that the Patriots and CB Darrelle Revis will meet to discuss a long-term contract as soon as their season is over.

According to Howe, the two sides would like to keep their relationship going for the foreseeable future.

Howe mentions that New England will likely rip up his current deal and work on a brand new contract.

Last we heard regarding Revis and the Pats, the two sides had yet to discuss a new contract, but sounds like they could an agreement in place before a decision needs to be made about his 2015 option.

After the Buccaneers cut him loose several months ago, Revis quickly signed a two-year, $32 million contract with the Patriots. However, the deal includes an option for the 2015 season that will need to be exercised before the final day of the 2014 League Year.

If the Patriots exercise the option, Revis would have a $12 million roster bonus is available in 2015 to go along with a base salary of $7.5 million. His cap figure would be $25 million next year, according to OverTheCap.com.

Revis, 29, has put together an impressive first year in New England, which could result in another impressive contract for the six-time Pro Bowler.

In 2014, Revis recorded 47 tackles, two interceptions, a forced fumble, a recovery and 14 pass defenses over the course of 16 games. Pro Football Focus has Revis rated as the No. 4 cornerback out of 108 qualifying players.
