Doug Kyed of NESN reports that the Patriots have expressed interest in Dolphins free agent WR Rishard Matthews.

The expectation has been all along that Matthews would test the open market, seeing as he’s one of the best receivers available in a limited free agent class.

Previous reports have said that the Dolphins would like to keep him, but with them being in a tough financial position, it’s likely he’ll be moving on.

Matthews, 26, played out the final year remaining on his four-year, $2,151,392 rookie contract and will be an unrestricted free agent this offseason.

In 2015, Matthews appeared in 11 games and caught 43 passes for 662 yards receiving and four touchdowns for the Dolphins. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 35 receiver out of 121 qualifying players.

We have him featured in our Top 100 – 2016 Free Agents list.
