Patriots Focused On Rebuilding Their Receiving Corp?

Mike Reiss of ESPN Boston writes that the Patriots may look to rebuild or restock their receiving corp this offseason.

Reiss mentions that New England is in need of “more quality and depth” at wide receiver position and they could even employ a “double-layered plan” towards finding new players in the draft and the free agent market.

Brandon Lloyd was supposed to provide them with the deep-threat that they’ve been missing since they cut ties with Randy Moss a few years ago, but that unfortunately wasn’t the case. Wes Welker put together another impressive season, but the Patriots have given no indication that they’re considering offering him a long-term contract extension. Julian Edelman is also a free agent, but he could be back in New England at a reasonable price.

This year should offer a number of quality receivers to choose from, assuming of course that they’re not franchised or re-signed before the start of free agency.

We have Greg Jennings, Dwayne Bowe, Mike Wallace, Danny Amendola and Brian Hartline all listed in our Top 50 Free Agents list. We have them taking West Virginia WR Tavon Austin in the first-round of our 2013 NFL Mock Draft to replace Welker.
