According to the Boston Globe, the Patriots only guaranteed half of Brandon Lloyd‘s $6 million bonus that will be paid to him in form of a option next season.
That means that New England can release him following the season, while only paying him $3 million.
The Patriots needed to upgrade their receiving options and Lloyd should certainly do that for them, but at least they’re not on the hook if he suffers a serious injury or dramatically under performs next season.
