Patriots Grooming Steven Ridley To Replace BenJarvus Green-Ellis?

According to the Boston Herald, it “makes sense” for the New England Patriots to use Stevan Ridley as their “main man between the tackles” running back this season.

The Patriots allowed BenJarvus Green-Ellis to leave during free agency, which makes sense when you consider that they spent a third-round pick on Ridley and a seconder on Shane Vereen. If Ridley ends up being used in goal line situations, in a similar to the one Green-Ellis filled for them, then Vereen will have to compete for carries with Danny Woodhead and Joseph Addai. Vereen could end up seeing more time in passing down situations.

  1. Ridley was a 3rd rounder.   But on a more important note, he has to learn to hold onto the ball.  Hopefully he can get rid of his fumblitis that he had in late 2011 and playoffs.

    • Terrible oversight on my part. I’ve made the adjustment. Losing a player that’s never fumbled in his career and replacing him with someone that’s had ball security issues in the past will certainly be a transition for the Pat’s offense, at least to some degree. They really don’t have a better option on their roster at this point.
