Patriots Hosting TE Asante Cleveland On Visit

Ben Volin of the Boston Globe reports the Patriots are hosting free agent TEĀ Asante Cleveland on a visit Thursday.

Cleveland, 25, originally signed on with the 49ers as an undrafted free agent out of Miami (FL) back in May of last year. He spent a good majority of last year on the team’s practice squad.

The Patriots traded for him but he was, unfortunately, unable to make the team’s 53-man roster coming out of the preseason. New England laterĀ signed him to their practice squad before cutting him loose midseason.

The Chargers wound up claiming him off of waivers and brought him back on a one-year,Ā exclusive rights deal last year.Ā Unfortunately, he was waived with an injury designation during the preseason and heĀ later reverted to injured reserve.

In 2016, Cleveland was active for just four games, but did not record a single reception.
