Jerod Mayo Announces He’s Retiring As A Patriot

Patriots veteran LB Jerod Mayo announced via his Instagram account that his time in New England is over.

Mayo, 29, agreed to a pay cut that paid him a salary of $4.5 million for the 2015 season. He had another two years remaining on his agreement and was set to make base salaries of $3.25 million in 2016 and another $6.75 million in 2017.

Albert Breer points out that the Patriots will free up $7 million in cap space to go along with $4.4 million in dead money following Mayo’s retirement.

In 2015, Mayo appeared in all 16 games and recorded 47 tackles, one sack and a pass defense for the Patriots. Pro Football Focus rated as the No. 26 inside linebacker out of 60 qualifying players.
