Patriots LB Jerod Mayo Believed To Have A Serious Knee Injury

Patriots LB Jerod Mayo was carted off the field after he suffered a knee injury that is believed to be serious during Sunday’s Week 6 win over the Buffalo Bills.

Mayo was trying to tackle Bills running back Anthony Dixon when his knee unfortunately buckled as contact was made.

When somebody’s getting carted off the field, you know it’s something severe, something bad,” CB Darrelle Revis said after the game, via Doug Kyed of NESN.com. “Because usually guys get up, and they might shake it off. We kinda — you can kinda sense it, but at the same time, everything just happens to fast.

Last year, Mayo suffered a season-ending torn pectoral in Week 6, so this appears to be terribly disappointing news for him and the Pats.

Mayo, 28, is in the fourth year of his seven-year, $49.85 million contract that includes $25 million guaranteed. His base salary for this season is $3.25 million to go along with another $6.25 million next year.

If this ends up being his last game in 2014, Mayo will have finished the year with 53 tackles, one sack and a fumble recovery over the course of six games.

We’ll have more updates as the news is available.
