Patriots Met With Free Agent OT LaAdrian Waddle On Friday

According to Mike Reiss of ESPN, the Patriots met with free agent OT LaAdrian Waddle at Gillette Stadium on Friday.

Reiss says that this is an indication that a deal may not be far off and/or New England wanted to have Waddle take a physical to update their information during the negotiating process.

The Patriots lost LT Nate Solder to the Giants, so it remains to be seen what their plan is to replace him.

Last we heard regarding Waddle, Ian Rapoport reported that New England would like to re-sign him and fellow free agent OTs Cameron Fleming but both are drawing “considerable interest” right now.

The offensive tackle market was limited to begin with but Fleming and Waddle are now two of the best available options and should be able to come away with respectable contracts when all is said and done.

Waddle, 26, wound up going undrafted out of Texas Tech back in 2013. He spent over two years in Detroit before he was waived midseason and later claimed off of waivers by the Patriots.

Waddle played out in the final year of his three-year, $1.485 million rookie contract before signing a two-year contract with the Patriots back in 2016.

He’s currently testing the open market as an unrestricted free agent.

In 2017 Waddle appeared in 12 games for the Patriots and is rated by Pro Football Focus as the 64 offensive tackle out of 81 qualifying players.
