Patriots OC Josh McDaniels Plans To Stay In New England Until Bill Belichick Retires?

Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk reported earlier this evening that Patriots OC Josh McDaniels was notably not among the NFL’s Career Development Advisory Panel list of recommended coachings candidates, despite being a hot head-coaching candidate the past few years.

A source later explained to Florio that the reason McDaniels wasn’t included is because has no plans to leave the Patriots anytime soon.

“I’m told the thinking continues to be that Josh McDaniels will stay in New England until coach Bill Belichick retires,” Florio said on Sunday Night in America, per Dave Birkett. “That’s why he’s not on the list.”

Jason La Canfora of CBS Sports previously reports that McDaniels’ stock may never be higher, and he expects McDaniels to cash in next year. La Canfora said at the time McDaniels is prepared to give head coaching a second shot in 2017.

However, it appears as though there’s a chance McDaniels may not even interview for jobs in the coming months.

McDaniels, 40, began his NFL coaching career with the Patriots as a personnel assistant back in 2001. He worked his way up to offensive coordinator in New England before he departed for the Broncos head-coaching job in 2009.

Unfortunately, things didn’t go very well for McDaniels with the Broncos as he was fired during his second year with the team.

After a brief stint with the Rams as their offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach, McDaniels returned to the Patriots and has been running their offense in recent years.

We’ll have more regarding McDaniels possibly being a head-coaching candidate as the news is available.
