Update: Jets Among Teams Showing Interest In Roy Helu Jr.

Update:

According to a source, the Jets are showing interest in free agent RB Roy Helu, per Brian Costello.

The Patriots and Giants have been previously linked to Helu.

Helu, 26, has played out his four-year, $2,510,252 rookie that included just $470,252 guaranteed, and is in a good position to secure a decent raise in the coming weeks.

Last year, Helu ran for 216 yards on 40 carries (5.4 YPC) and caught 42 passes for 477 yards receiving to go along with three touchdowns. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 22 running back out of 57 qualifying players.

We have Helu listed as the No. 75 player in our Top 100 Free Agents list.

Jeff Howe of the Boston Herald reports that the Patriots are one of three teams currently vying for free agent RB Roy Helu.

  • Yesterday, Jordan Raanan reported that the Giants had also shown interest in Helu.

It’s interesting to hear that the Patriots are among the teams looking at Helu, but they could be losing both Shane Vereen and Steven Ridley in free agency.

The Giants seem like the better fit given that they could really use a solid third-down running back to pair with Rashad Jennings and Andre Williams.
