Patriots Open To Re-Signing WR Wes Welker?

New England Patriots owner Robert Kraft mentioned that he would like to have wide receiver Wes Welker back next season.

I’d love him to be around,” Kraft said, per Jeff Howe of the Boston Herald. “Like I’ve said all along, it takes two sides to make a transaction…I think Wes wants to be with us, and we want him here. It’s just a matter of whether both sides can be intelligent.

Welker, 31, recorded his fifth 100-catch season in 2012, catching 118 passes for 1,354 yards and six touchdowns. The Patriots franchised him last season, so they would have to be willing to pay him an additional 20 percent on top of the $10.36 million tag figure. It seems likely that Welker will be playing elsewhere next season, but there’s at least a remote chance he could be back.

We have Welker listed as the No. 10 best available player in our Top 50 Free Agents list.
