Patriots OT Matt Light No Longer Retiring?

Several reports have suggested that Patriots OT Matt Light will most likely call it career at some point in the near future, but from his recent comments, Light is still unsure about his future in the NFL.

Last season was great,” said Light, via the Boston Herald. “I enjoyed it, which I kind of made obvious there at the end.

Light was elected to the NFLPA’s executive committee over the weekend, and appears to be healthy so there’s still a chance he could be back for another season in New England.

His $3.4 million salary could be a sticking point as the team may ask him to take a pay cut at some point, should he choose to return.

Mike Reiss of ESPN Boston expects to see Patriots LT Matt Light retire in the coming weeks.

There have been numerous reports suggesting that Light is strongly considering walking away from the game so this is basically on par with what we expected.

Light played very well for the Patriots last season and was actually rated by Pro Football Focus as the #16 best offensive tackle of the 2011 season. He’s due a $3.4 million salary for the upcoming season so there’s a chance that he would have to take a pay cut to stay with the team.

Reiss believes that he’s ready to walk away now rather than hang around for a few more years.
