Patriots Place DT Tommy Kelly On Injured Reserve

Jeff Howe of the Boston Herald first reported that the New England Patriots have placed DT Tommy Kelly on season-ending injured reserve.

Kelly missed the last three weeks with a knee injury and after evaluation it was determined that the he was nowhere near returning anytime soon.

New England has already lost Vince Wilfork for the season after he torn his Achilles tendon back in Week 4. The Patriots swung a deal with the Eagles before Tuesday’s trade deadline for NT Isaac Sopoaga, so they are clearly hoping that he will be able to step in and help solidify their interior defensive line. Chris Jones and Joe Vellano also figure to have much larger roles as Pats are likely to employ a rotation for the remainder of the season.
