Patriots Place LB Jonathan Freeny & TE Greg Scruggs On Injured Reserve

The Patriots also placed LB Jonathan Freeny and TE Greg Scruggs on injured reserve Saturday to make for DE Geneo Grissom and DT Anthony Johnson, who were promoted to their active roster.

Freeny, 27, originally signed on with the Dolphins as an undrafted free agent out of Rutgers back in 2011. He spent three years in Miami before signing on with the Patriots in March of last year.

The Patriots actually signed Freeny to a two-year extension through 2018 this past August.

In 2016, Freeny has appeared in five games and recorded 10 tackles and a forced fumble for the Patriots.

Scruggs, 26, is a former seventh-round pick of the Seahawks back in 2012. He spent two years in Seattle before signing on with the Bears in 2015, who ended up waiving him back in September.

The Patriots signed him to a contract two weeks ago, making this a clear disappointment for New England.

In 2016, Scruggs has appeared in three games but has not recorded any statistics.
