Patriots Place LT Nate Solder On Season Ending I.R. & Claim DB Rashaan Melvin

Field Yates of ESPN reports that the Patriots have officially placed LT Nate Solder on season-ending injured reserve Wednesday.

  • The Patriots also claimed DB Rashaan Melvin off of waivers from the Ravens.

Solder was scheduled to undergo have an MRI on Monday after he sustained an injury during the Patriots’ Week 5 win over the Cowboys, reports from earlier in the day said that he was done for the season.

Solder, 27, signed a three-year, $28.02 million contract extension that included $19.938 million guaranteed with the Patriots at the start of the season. He stands to make a base salary of $7.4 million for the 2015 season.

This season, Solder had appeared in four games for the Patriots and was rated by Pro Football Focus as the No. 42 offensive tackle out of 76 players.

Melvin, 26, originally signed on with the Buccaneers as an undrafted free agent out of Northern Illinois back in 2013. He later caught on with the Dolphins for a brief period of time before being signed off of Miami’s practice squad by the Ravens.

On the season, Melvin has appeared in one game and recorded a single tackle for the Ravens.
