Patriots Placing QB Jacoby Brissett On Injured Reserve With Thumb Injury

Update:

ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports that the Patriots are, in fact, placing QB Jacoby Brissett on injured reserve Friday with a thumb injury.

Field Yates of ESPN reports that while the team has yet to make any final decisions, it’s possible that they could place rookie QB Jacoby Brissett on injured reserve in the coming days.

This would free up a roster spot for the team to use on reinstating either QB Tom Brady or DE Rob Ninkovich from the suspended list.

Ian Rapoport of NFL Media reported earlier in the week that Brissett’s thumb issue could require surgery at some point and there was at least a chance New England could place him on injured reserve.

Brissett, 22, was taken in the third round of this year’s NFL draft by the Patriots. He’s in the first year of his four-year, $3.411 million contract and stands to make a base salary of $450,000 for the 2016 season.

Entering today’s game, Brissett had thrown for 195 yards while completing 60.7 percent of his passes to go along with 60 yards rushing and a touchdown on the ground over the course of two games.

We’ll have more regarding Brissett and a possible trip to injured reserve as the news is available.
