Patriots Placing TE Martellus Bennett & S Nate Ebner On Injured Reserve

Jim McBride reports that the Patriots are placing TE Martellus Bennett on injured reserve Monday.

• McBride adds that Patriots S Nate Ebner will also be placed on injured reserve.

Bennett has been dealing with a torn rotator cuff and other labrum damage in his shoulder along with a hamstring injury, according to reports.

Green Bay waived him with a failure to disclose medical condition designation, which will allow them to try to recoup some of Bennett’s signing bonus.

It’s worth mentioning that Bennett has hinted that this could be his last season in the NFL, so we’ll have to see where things stand with him next year and whether the Patriots are interested in retaining him at his current salary.

Bennett, 30, is a former second-round pick of the Cowboys back in 2008. He’s currently in the first year of his three-year, $21 million contract and stands to make base salaries of $3.6 million and $5.65 million over the next two years of the agreement.

The Packers elected to waive Bennett with a failure to disclose medical condition designation a few weeks ago and he was later claimed off of waivers by the Patriots.

In 2017, Bennett appeared in nine games and caught 30 passes for 286 yards receiving and no touchdowns for the Packers and Patriots.

You can expect the Patriots to place him on injured reserve in the coming days and add someone to their roster.

Ebner, 28, is a former sixth-round pick of the Patriots back in 2012. He’s currently in the final year of his two-year, $2.4 million contract and stands to make a base salary of $825,000 for the 2017 season before testing the open market as an unrestricted free agent next year.

In 2017, Ebner appeared in nine games and recorded eight tackles for the Patriots.
